A cough is heard from the saloon bar,
where Jim O’Neill, Andy’s flash new
mate, is supping on a pint of finest
Northern champagne (Ilkley Moor Bah
T’attinger).
Jim O’Neill: This charging the wealthy extra… mmm… not sure it’s going to work, lad.
Andy Burnham: Why so?
Jim O’Neill: No reason. Just thinking aloud.
Louise stops filming abruptly at this, the first hint of criticism of the new landlord.
Louise Haigh: How much are you worth, Jim?
Jim O’Neill: Sad to say, Lou, I’m down to me last couple of hundred… million. So customers like me won’t take kindly to this daft idea of making the rich pay more. ’Cos then we’ll be poor. And no one wants more poor people. Think about it, love.
Other regulars in the upmarket saloon bar nod their heads sagely in agreement.
All: Oh aye, our Jim’s got a point. Stands to reason. There’s nowt so rich as folk like us.
Angela Rayner: Is there a drought on? (holds up empty glass) ’Cos I’m parched! Give us another pint of Cobra, Andy.
Andy Burnham: Coming up, our Ange. It’s on the house.
Angela Rayner: Which one?
Andy Burnham: Don’t panic, not one of yours!
