In recent years a photograph has occasionally appeared in your magazine of a young lady enjoying the fatherly attentions of an older gentleman. A rather similar picture caught my eye today on page 20 of The Independent (25 August).

Although in this picture both subjects seem more aware of accepted standards of modesty and personal grooming, the gentleman’s expression still betrays his suspicion that he is making a bit of a prat of himself.
