Yes, Fireworks Night means only one thing. Christmas is on the way, and it’s time for another well-deserved holiday. And this holiday promises to be extra special, as Mr Javid, the Head of IT, has worked out a way to make our holiday home in Cornwall (or Portugal or Chipping Norton) a mobile phone hotspot, so I’ll be able to spend even more time away from the school, being more hands on than ever. By which I don’t mean hands on the white wine, but hands on the mobile, ready to make any decisions that need to be made, such as “Let’s wait on this”, “We can deal with that when I get back” and “Can’t we talk about it in May?”.
I must say, Mr Javid is a jolly helpful chap and a lot younger than most of the staff, (no names, Mr Clarke!), so not only does he really get this interweb stuff but he has genuine potential for the future. In fact, I can see him as a future Headmaster – not now, obviously, but say in ten years’ time, when the demands of this job force me to take things easy, slow down and go to Cornwall, Portugal or Chipping Norton.
Anyway, a Headmaster’s work is never done, so I must sign off now and address my workload for the week ahead – that tree, turkey and crate of vintage port don’t order themselves, you know!
